Interior shampoo is deep cleaning for the soft surfaces of a car: carpets, floor mats, cloth seats and the boot. It is what you book when vacuuming and wiping have stopped working, because the problem is not on top of the fabric, it is down in it.
Fabric in a car acts like a filter. Valley dust, spilt drinks, food, pet hair and damp shoes all end up in the weave, and once they are there a vacuum only takes the top layer. That is why a car can look tidy and still smell.
What condition an interior is usually in
The common ones: a family car where the rear footwells have gone dark and crunchy, a work truck with dust ground into the driver's carpet, a car that has carried a dog and now holds hair in every seam, or a vehicle where something was spilt in the boot months ago and nobody dealt with it.
A lot of cars come in before a sale, because a buyer reads the interior before they read anything else, and after a road trip or a season of farm and orchard driving, when the dust that came in through the doors has settled everywhere.
What the process involves
Everything loose comes out and the mats are taken out and treated separately. The interior is vacuumed thoroughly first, including seat rails, under the seats and the boot, because shampooing dust turns it into mud.
Carpets and cloth upholstery are then shampooed and agitated so the cleaner reaches into the fibres rather than sitting on them, and the soil is extracted rather than left behind. Pet hair is a separate job that takes real time, which is why we ask about it before quoting. Hard surfaces, vents, console and door cards are cleaned by hand at the same time.
The car then needs to dry properly. We will tell you what that means for your drop-off when you book.
How to tell whether you need it
Press a clean damp cloth firmly into the carpet. If it comes up dirty, the vacuum is not reaching what is in there. If the cabin smells of anything after the car has been shut overnight, the fabric is holding it, and an air freshener is only covering it.
If your seats are leather rather than cloth, this is not the service you want, leather conditioning is. If the whole car needs attention inside and out, a full detail covers both.
What interior shampoo does not fix
It does not repair torn fabric, cigarette burns, split seams or a cracked dashboard. Dye stains and some old spills may lighten significantly without disappearing entirely, and we will tell you honestly when a stain looks permanent instead of promising it will go.
It also does nothing for the outside of the car. Paint, glass and wheels are separate work.

Common questions
Will interior shampoo remove pet hair?
Pet hair is handled as its own task, because it weaves into carpet and cloth and has to be worked out rather than vacuumed off. Tell us there is pet hair when you book so the job is quoted properly.
Can you get every stain out of my carpet?
Not always. Dye-based spills and old set-in stains often lighten a great deal without disappearing. We would rather tell you that before the work than after it.
How long does the interior stay wet?
The car needs time to dry properly before it is handed back, and that depends on the weather and how heavy the cleaning was. We will give you a realistic drop-off plan when you book.
